Save Rayburn Chapel!

Cowan Ministerial Association is leading an effort to save a historic Cowan church that has been inactive since at least the year 1991.  Rayburn Chapel AME Church, at the corner of S. Sycamore and Chestnut Streets, is a beautiful landmark in need of preservation.  Rayburn Chapel was founded by Methodist missionaries who came to Cowan about 30 years before the Civil War.  The congregation served Cowan's black community for well over a century before the church finally closed.  Our vision is to bring the historic structure back into good repair so that it can, once again, serve the community for the sake of the gospel.  If you would like to contribute money, time, or materials toward this effort, please call Jarod at 308-8954.
